Rules & Regulations
- All pieces must be performed from memory.
- Solo works only – concerti are not allowed.
- No cuts or editing are allowed for the works performed.
- Repeats indicated in the score are optional.
- Video recordings may be paused between each piece, however each work on the video must be a continuous and unedited performance.
- Any recording over the allotted time will not be penalized but will not be judged.
- Repertoire changes are permitted as long as the Festival Director is notified by email before the video submission.
- Applicants are encouraged to compete in their age group. Applicants may not compete in the level below their age group.
- Previous first place winner of the Aloha International Piano Competition must compete in the next higher division, regardless of age.
- Applicants whose programs do not meet the repertoire requirements may be disqualified.
- All video and audio recordings, as well as photographs and interview made during any of the events at AIPF will remain the sole property of the Aloha International Piano Festival.
- Judges will have the right to honor ties.
- Judges’ comments will not be provided.
- Judges’ decisions are final.
Winners (Levels A, B and Amateur) and Finalists (Junior, High School and Young Artist) will be announced on the festival’s website on September 25, 2021.
Video Requirements
Entrants must upload an unedited, high-definition (HD) video of their performance to YouTube.
- Applicant’s face and hands should be clearly visible.
- All pieces must be performed by memory and in their original form.
- Video must not be edited, nor should any effects such as “reverb” be added. Any evidence of audio that does not match the performance will result in disqualification.
- Video must have been recorded within 3 months of submission.
- Different pieces may be recorded on different occasions/venues.
- Video recordings may be paused between each piece, however each work on the video must be a continuous and unedited performance.
- Clearly label the uploaded file with the applicant’s name and competing level.
- Your recording must be genuinely performed by you.
- Review your recording before uploading to ensure they are of good quality.
- Please note that submitted recordings do not need to be filmed in a particular setting. Videos filmed in a practice room, a living room, a concert hall, a recording studio, or any other setting may be submitted.
- No substitutions of video are allowed once submitted.
Additional Information
- Final round of the Competition will be live-streamed from the Hawaii Theatre on October 9, 2021. Finalists’ video performance will be live-streamed and winners will be announced upon conclusion of the competition.
- Finalists are encouraged to appear online for the Competition Finals and Awards Ceremony.
- Winners of Level A, B and Amateur are encouraged to appear online for the Awards Ceremony on October 9, 2021.
