Repertoire Selection
Performance order of works is left to the contestant’s discretion for the video recording.
All appropriate information must be included in the application for each work listed:
- Title of the work, with catalog (K., L, etc.) or opus number, key, and tempo markings
- Movement number and tempo markings for larger pieces (sonatina, sonata, suite, etc.)
- Performance time for each work and each individual movement within works
- Composer’s last name and historical style period
All pieces must be performed by memory and in their original form. No cuts or editing are allowed to the works performed. Repeats indicated in the score are optional. Solo works only – concerti are not allowed.
Select a competing level.
Level A: Up to Age 8. Maximum 6 minutes. One Round.
- Piece(s) by baroque or classical periods
- Piece(s) of a different period other than baroque or classical
Level B: Ages 9 – 11. Maximum 10 minutes. One Round.
- Any piece(s) by J.S. Bach (no transcriptions permitted) or first or last movement of a classical sonata/sonatina
- Any piece(s) of contrasting periods of the applicant’s choice. Original composition and improvisations are not permitted.
Junior: Ages 12 – 14. Two Rounds.
Preliminary Round. Maximum 15 minutes
- First or last movement of a classical sonata
- Any piece(s) of the applicant’s choice other than a classical sonata. Original composition and improvisations are not permitted.
Final Round. Three (3) applicants will advance to the finals. Maximum 15 minutes.
- Any virtuosic etude of the applicant’s choice.
- *Any piece(s) of the applicant’s choice. Original compositions and improvisations are not permitted.
High School: Ages 15 – 18. Two Rounds.
Preliminary Round. Maximum 20 minutes
- First or last movement of a classical sonata
- Any piece(s) of the applicant’s choice other than a classical sonata. Original composition and improvisations are not permitted.
Final Round. Three (3) applicants will advance to the finals. Maximum 20 minutes.
- Any virtuosic etude by Chopin or Liszt
- *Any piece(s) of the applicant’s choice. Original compositions and improvisations are not permitted.
Young Artist: Ages 19 – 25. Two Rounds.
Preliminary Round. Maximum 20 minutes
- First or last movement of a classical sonata
- Any piece(s) of the applicant’s choice other than a classical sonata. Original composition and improvisations are not permitted.
Final Round. Three (3) applicants will advance to the finals. Maximum 20 minutes.
- Any virtuosic etude by Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, or Scriabin
- *Any piece(s) of the applicant’s choice. Original compositions and improvisations are not permitted.
- Use the same video submitted for the preliminary round.
- Submit a new video performing the same repertoire from the preliminary round.
- Submit a new video performing a different repertoire.
